Teenager was off with Meg for her birthday on Saturday so we hit Bristol and the Soma Gallery in Clifton to learn to make funky tape measure rosettes
with Harriet and Rosie from Tatty Devine. Needless to say I was beside myself with excitement.
Although I was a bit less dexterous at making the rosette than I would have liked I seemed to muddle through and produce something more or less ok! Mr M made one too and his was perfect of course..
Soma Gallery is really cool. We got free Earl Grey and Lemon Drizzle cake while we waited for the session before us to finish so we got a good chance for a mooch around. Obviously I had to pick up a copy of the ladies new book How to Make Jewellery with Tatty Devine and get it signed – not cool I know but who cares!
Mr M liked the posters by Andy Smith especially this one…
Right opposite Soma was the Clifton Arcade
complete with Gorilla which is jam-packed with great shops including a lovely yarn shop, a vintage and vintage homeware shop and a really lovely crafty shop called I love Crafty which had handmade things from lots of local artists and craftspeople. We also had the most fantastic tea and cake
in the Lahloo Pantry round the corner and brought home some very lovely Chai mix to boot.
Last night saw the inaugural meeting of the Alderholt sewing/crafting group in the village Reading Rooms. I love this funny little building, it’s got real charm and character, even if it is a little tired round the edges!
Despite a very late Facebook event invitation sent out by me there were 8 of us for the first group and hopefully there are a few more promising to come along next time. This was a giggle and cake filled night although a little light on actual crafty achievements – there was everything from hand quilting to beautiful glass work and I managed a tiny bit of crochet and a lot of chatting and browsing magazines! Next time we will be excitedly making gingerbread houses for Christmas – someone joked about the WI – apparently that’s pretty cool these days – watch this space….
Tatty Devine Workshop Saturday 12th November 2pm – 4pm
Rosie Wolfenden and Harriet Vine, the ladies behind Tatty Devine will be coming to Soma on Saturday 12th November to host a rosette making workshop! They will be signing copies of their new book, ‘How to Make Jewellery with Tatty Devine’ and teaching you to make a classic Tatty Devine rosette, one of the projects in the book. We will be holding this workshop in our first floor space.
There will be tasty cakes and refreshments to keep you going provided by Lahloo Tea! Plus some extra special cakes provided by Bristol’s biggest Tatty Devine fan, my sister!
