Exciting NEW shops news!!

We had a fantastic afternoon recently in our beloved Pokesdown!  The Dorset Scrapstore was having an open afternoon at their new premises in Boscombe and one of my favourite vintage loving ladies was opening her new shop on Christchurch Road.  In short this was a day not to be missed!  The Scrapstore is of course aces and full of amazing bargains for the crafty amongst us  and the free crafty workshops went down a storm with the small boy, but the star of the day was our trip to Emily’s beautiful shop Cotton Candy Designs which at the Pokesdown station end of Christchurch Road.

Photo: Checkout our brand new sign!

Emily is formerly of Poppy Meadows  about whom I have waxed lyrical a number of times and was with us for our first vintage fair last year where her handmade items went down a storm!  She has teamed up with her friend the equally lovely Cara Lloyd-Hopkins of Carara Designs for this venture and the outcome is a pretty and welcoming shop choc full of lovely items for the home and pretty Christmas gifts galore.  Cara specialises in fantabulous handmade items for the home and beautiful handbags all made in the Summerhouse at the end of her garden.

Gorgeous shop window showing off fab handmade bags by Cara

Emily has recently added upholstery to her repertoire and I was especially taken with the gorgeous floor cushions in the shop which are definitely on my Christmas list!

Giant cushions and reupholstered arm chair just right for a cosy night by the fire.

I’m also hoping that she will renovate my original Lloyd Loom Chair that has been sat in my garage for about 10 years waiting for me to get around to it!  I know commissions are taken.   Other furniture renovations had me drooling too like this 1950s kitchen unit for example.

Kitchen cupboards have never been so stylish!

Check out the ladies facebook page for more photos, or even better take a trip to Pokesdown for your Christmas shopping this year.  There’s just so much to love on our doorstep!  You’d only be putting cash in the pockets of Amazon otherwise afterall!

We’ve just finished decorating the hall with the help of fantastic local company Banquets Bowls and Buttonholes – it really does look lovely!

Our fair is about supporting and promoting local businesses as well as raising money for the Village Hall Refurbishment.  We have a wealth of local talent on display again this year.  Check this out!

Natalie and Sandra King will be bringing a range of lovely handmade items.  Nat was a huge hit last year and have a look at this fab assortment that she’s bringing along this year

Every penny of our stall (that's mum, Ellen & I) will be donated to the Medaille Trust. Please come along and support us; support the fair; share the link below and tell your friends - thank you! :-)

On top of all of this we have Pam Clarke with us from the beautiful new shop Home at Seventy One in Fordingbridge.  Pam refurbishes and upcycles unloved items as well as selling fantastic gifts.

Sarah Jackson will be with us again with her fabulous range of handmade cards and one or two other surprises.  Come along and see her!

Last but not least we have our friends from Sandleheath Knit and Natter who will be raising money for charity again with their beautiful stall and also sharing knitting love with anyone who would like to listen.  Here’s just one fun example of what they will have on show!

Nostalgic Christmas Fair – Exhibitor Focus – Food glorious Food!

As it’s Christmas (well soon anyway!) we have some lovely food and drink goodies for you this time!  We have some local favourites of course and some of them are actually joining us!

From Dorset With Love

Although Chrissy only started From Dorset With Love a year or so ago, she’s been earning rave reviews for her products, winning Taste of Dorset awards and supplying her lovely jams and chutneys to some of the biggest foodie names in Dorset. She recently been developing new lines and if they’re as good as the five spice we marinaded our tea in the other week we’re all in for a treat. Hopefully she’ll have been up all night making some more mulled wine spice too. You can keep in touch with From Dorset With Love here on twitter.

New Forest Preserves

We’ve told you all about the people behind New Forest Preserves already as they are also Betsy’s Shed. We love the beautiful things they produce so we can’t wait to see what they can do with tinctures and cordials.

James’s Cheese

Straight out of Child Okeford comes James’s Cheese. Everybody loves a good cheese and James’s is amongst the best we’ve tasted. He recently received ‘Best New Cheese’ 2012 for his magnificent Frankie. We’re looking forward to stocking up.

Banquets, Bowls & Buttonholes

These lovely people not only run a bespoke vintage flowers and china package, but they’ll be coming along with a fantastic selection of cupcakes too. Yum yum!

The Barrel & Bottle Co.

Simon opened this great independent off licence in Fordingbridge earlier this year and provides a great service. Beer or Cider can be bought straight from the cask and he always has a good rotation of real ales from exciting local or upcoming breweries. He also has a great range of wines and spirits, as well as a great choice of American or European beers. Simon will be running a bar at the fair, so make sure you pop by.

Nostalgic Christmas Fair – Exhibitor Focus – Home Grown Originals!

Last years Vintage and Handmade Fair was especially memorable for the fantastic people we met.  High on this list is Katherine and her Mum otherwise known as Home Grown Originals.   Katherine is a queen thrifter and does wonderful repurposing of quirky and beautiful objects.  Here’s some pictures of her stall last year!

Her blog is also really lovely.  It muses on the joys of thrifting and renovating and upcycling but also on the ups and downs of family life with her two gorgeous boys.  This photo from her site sums it up I think…a day at Blandford Georgian Fayre!

Check out those fantastic quirky pin cushions – we really love those!!

Really looking forward to getting together with Katherine and her family again on Saturday – hope you are too!

Nostalgic Christmas Fair – Exhibitor Focus – Miss Magpie Makes!

Miss Magpie

We are so so pleased to have the wonderful Beth of Miss Magpie Makes with us again this year.  Last year I bought a pretty giftbag from Beth but she does all sorts of pretty things including lovely pin cushions like these

and cool drawstring washbags

I especially love these cute oilcloth bags, handy for washbags or makeup

and these pretty pretty brooches

There are also some gorgeous needle rolls for the knitter, seamstress or crochet addict in your life.  Fantastic!

Check out Beths lovely Blog to see more of her stuff, it’s a lovely cosy read!
